Let's save the Old lens

I cannot understand why people would want to save that bit of money and take the risk of spoiling the whole lens where they should have actually hired a professional to get the lens cleaned.
I have gotten this lens from this guy nick "inout", appearance of this lens was very good. I thought i have picked an unbelievable bargain of this legendary lens but i was wrong, after a few tries, i discovered that the lens has alot of technical problem. Focusing and aperture seems a little off.

Spoke to a few gurus and discovered that the lens was dissembled and reassembled by some "act smart". It was further confirmed by Mr Phillip Tay. Conclusion, the lens was carelessly dissembled, the lens was cleaned using a wrong chemical and we could spot fungus marks on it, lens was badly assembled back and the rear glasses was inverted and as such, the focus is out. The total repair cost would cost me $95.

I made a decision to get this lens repaired instead of returning back to the owner. The reason was simple.

Like Mr Phillip Tay, we both felt the pain on this lens. It was such a good lens but such a pity to be abused by the previous owner. The lens was handled badly and might not recover to its top notched condition but assured by Mr Phillip, he will reinstate the lens back to its original condition as much as he can.

The owner is willing to half the cost of the repair on this lens which still after calculation cheaper than what i can fetch from the market.

The lens to be recalibrate and repaired by Mr Phillip Tay would means the glass will get an assurance if i were to resale it in future.

Mom asked me why i don get a gd conditioned one for $600. The reason is, even if i paid $600 for it, i cannot assured it will be in a good condition. At least for this lens, i know the reason and i know that Mr Phillip has fixed all the issues.

Nikkor produced many good lens and many which have already stopped production. While many people still hold on to these lenses, not many treated them with care. In a way, these are antiques that should be treated with more care. It is such a waste to spoil the lens due to genuine mis handling of them.
