Moon Cake Festival

Every year, i am quite pampered by the variety of moon cakes that our supplier sent...and this year seems to be my 3rd moon cake festival in CAAS.

Unlike previous year, i gave it a miss, anyway, my wallet pretty dry as well this year...Aiyo, i meant Szechuan court, swiss otel snowskin mini truffles.
Nonetheless, i still had a few "free samplings"

I have tried some and my comments:
For snowskin, i still prefer swiss otel...while at times i do not understand why with the recent competitions and newer varieties that other outlets are promoting, why do they not improved or come out with newer flavours...

After i tried Li Bai's snowskin, i discover that there is really a huge difference...while companies kept coming out with newer taste, swiss otel will just need to maintain their standard and it definitely is the best snow skin truffle i ever had.

How do i rate them? On what basis i claim that its of standard?
The outlook of the mooncake 20%
As you know, snowskin are a little different from those baked moon cakes...they are much softer and it is very important that it doesnt taste so much like the skin of ang ku kuek, nor too dry.
The skin should never leave its filling and becomes 2 dishes, skin and filling. Picture this, Have you seen a sushi where the rice and the ingredient become separated and you have to eat them separately?

Have you tried Goodwood's park durian and chempalak snowskin mooncake? Erm....how is the skin and the fillings done?

Just tried Li Bai's passion fruit snow skin passion fruit mooncake..my comment as follows:

I seldom come across snowskin that tasted oily...i am unsure if its the feeling or the skin...i just know that i had to use soap to wash my fingers after i handpicked it....
The outlook of the mooncake....its definitely out of shape or was it design to look different?

As usual, i got to comment that Li Bai's box is always one of the very unique and well designed packaging in the market.

Their lotus paste baked mooncake taste a little too oily as well...how to differentiate? Try tasting The raffles hotel baked double egg yolk and Li Bai's at the same time..and tell me your preference..
For me, i think The Raffles hotel's tasted nicer! Well of course the above are all commented base on my preference and taste...If there is a chance, i will show you something special in my next blog...a home made tasty pandan mooncake!
