China Tour - Shanghai Day 1 Journal

When I left for the trip, I carried along with me the perception that China is still a very back dated country. Smelly toilets, impolite citizens, pick pockets and tricksters.
When I reached there, it wasn’t as bad as what they have told me. Apparently, I think the people there are more civilized than most Singaporeans, leaving aside the minority baddies.
China is developing at such a fast pace that I believed if you have been there last year, it would be so different this year especially in Shanghai. The cost of living isn’t any difference compared to Singapore. So if u are thinking SGD is very strong, you are all wrong.

I didn’t really have much time to compose my shots..so most of the pics found are more of a street candid…

Day 1 Arrival at Shanghai, Pudung Airport

I was full of anticipation for the cold temperature. When we arrived in Shanghai, it was only 8 degrees.
The sky are always in the winter sonata mood…evening sun throughout the day.. very nice.

We took the bullet train 磁浮列车to a station away just to experience the 430km per hour speed of this train. Something that the Chinese are proud of. It was built by the Germans but can only be found in China.

Shanghai gave me the same feeling when I was in Hongkong..the streets are always full of ppl..full of cars…crowded and lively.
Our first stop was at 城隍廟 shopping area. The architecture are very rich in culture. It’s a tourist attraction area, something like a China Town. Was told by the tour guide to safe guard our stuff properly because, pickpockets can be found around these areas.

It was drizzling when we arrived, so basically, everyone is carrying an umbrella. Umbrella can be easily bought around this place for just $10 RMB

Starbucks can be found here and only the foreigners are patronizing it.

I had hell lot of fun snapping these building, think there should be at least 5 different types of such architecture.

Oh..in china, you can find a lot of 公安(Police) in almost everywhere, so rest assured that if you require help, you definitely can find them.

We went over to Nanjing road immediately and was told, it was their Orchard Road. Here, you can find all sorts of fashions and bags etc…
The locals are all wearing boots..maybe becos its winter and you see them in winter clothing, you don really find them unfashionable. Haha…

We left Shanghai for Zhou Zhuang(周庄) after lunch at a boat beneath the Nan pu Da Qiao (南浦大桥), a very rich in culture bridge. To be frank, all the constructions of bridges and buildings comes with a story. So if you are really interested to understand all of these stories, I think you might need a few years in that country studying them. Unlike Singapore, all the bridge are built because the government says so…
